Children play ‘Missing card’ game. They memorize all the flashcards and their English names and then they close their eyes. The T. covers one card. Children are asked to open their eyes and guess what the missing card is.
3. What are the pumpkins doing? Sing and act!
The T. presents lyrics of the ‘Five little pumpkins’ song using appropriate flashcards. Children join the T. and perform the actions – smiling, pouting etc. Then the T. turns the music on and let children play – sing and act. It can be repeated twice.
4. Watch and play – ‘Five funny pumpkins’ song
The T. presents DVD material – ‘Five funny pumpkins’ song. Then the T. encourages children to sing a song too when she presents the song to children again. Then the whole group tries to sing a song without music in a slow pace. When children memorize the lyrics they can play. The whole group should be divided into a few groups of five children. The small groups should stand in a rows. After each verse one child from the group sits down. All is finished when all children sit.
5. Watch and play – ‘The Halloween dance’ – craft work
The T. presents ‘The Halloween dance’ to children. Then she asks children to sit at the tables. She hands the activity cards in. Children are given crayons, color pencils and scissors. The task is to colour the Halloween figure they have got, then cut it off and stick to the straw with a tape. This way children prepare their Halloween figure to the ‘Halloween dance’.
Children stand in the circle. The T. presents ‘The Halloween dance’ from DVD. Children who have the figures called in the song get in the circle and dance as they can and wish. Then they come back to the circle and are replaced in the middle by others.
6. Trick or treat!
The T. talks about ‘trick or treat’ play. Children are given the picture of sweets. Each child gets one. The T. put on the floor some hoops – ‘houses’ – the one less then the number of children. Children race to the hoops. One child stands in one hoop. The child that has no hoop is going around the ‘neighborhood’, stops in front of chosen child in a hoop, says ‘Knock, knock’, the other child answers ‘Hello!’, then the first one shouts ‘Trick or treat!’. If the other child wants, he/she gives his/her sweet to the first one, if not or if the child doesn’t have any sweet, the first child plays on hi/her nose – making a joke. After every round the children change hoops. Each child should have a chance to go and practice ‘trick or treat!’.
7. ‘Touch’ Halloween – summing up
The T. asks children to look around the room. The children notice Halloween stickers all around. The T. turn the music (‘Five little pumpkins’) on. Children dance as they wish. When the music stops the T. calls the name and presents the flashcard with some Halloween symbol – one of the stickers. The task is to find the same sticker and stand near it. After a few rounds the T. just calls the name of the Halloween symbol without showing the flashcard.
8. See you next year! Banishing the monsters – ‘Go away!’ song
The T. presents ‘Go away’ song to children. Then she encourages them to sing with her. Children use their paper Halloween figures – they sing and put to the special box all the figures mentioned in the song. After that the T. closes the box and put it away till the next year. The T. thanks for the classes and say goodbye to children.
