England is a country that is part of the United Kingdom. The capital of England is London.
The national colour of England is white and its symbols are :
• a red rose,
• the St. George’s cross (a red cross on a white background is the flag of England ),
• the Three Lions Emblem.
Saint George is the patron saint of England.
He was a brave soldier in the Roman army. One of the best-known stories about Saint George is his fight with a dragon. According to a legend George killed the dragon.
St. George’s Day is celebrated on the 23rd March.
It is usually celebrated with a week of free events including parades, singing English folk songs and dancing.

Saint Patrick is the patron saint of Northern Ireland. Patrick was an Irish bishop and Christian missionary, who was born in the late fourth century.
St. Patrick's Day is celebrated on the 17th March. It is usually celebrated with a parade, wearing green, music and songs, Irish food and drink and activities for children such as crafts, colouring and games.
The pipes are a traditional Irish instrument.
A leprechaun is a type of fairy creature in a green coat living in Ireland. According to legend leprechauns spend all their time making shoes and store away all they coins in a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. They have a magical power to grand three wishes.

Celebrations include concerts and a food festival. Children in Wales take part in school concerts with recitation and singing. This costume consists of a long woollen skirt, white blouse, woollen shawl and a Welsh hat.
