This is a lesson which was created to employ an active board connected to the internet although it can be easily modified to be use just with computers connected to the internet.
I. Introduction
Today, we are going to talk about the place where English language come from.
So please open your notebooks and write the subject (At this moment we enter the webpage www.projectbritain.com and we cicrle the subject so they can copy it to their notebooks).
Now we need to make a list of basic words we are going to use today.
What do you think of when we talk about national symbols:

II. Main part
1.Official name.
T asks: What's the difference between: the UK, England, Great Britain, British Isles:
The teacher presents 4 simple maps of above and students have to match the above names to the maps.
The teacher swiches back to the website and says: Ok lets check (Facts>Introduction>the countries)
The students fil in their worksheet:

Great Britain = ...... countries :
the UK = ...... countries :
British Isles =
The UK means ........................................
After finishing the notes in the notebooks Ss do the same on the board to check.
2.Some geographical facts
T asks: Where is the UK
In next step we click the link in the lower part of the page "Click here to find out more about the UK" and look together at the map.
Then Ss fill in the table about What countries are in the UK:
country capital Nationality of people
The last line of the table should be the UK/London/Britain so your students would feel the difference. Nationalities are easy to find under facts>identity
After that we might use a link at this page to check what they do remember "Interactive Map of the UK"
The population of the United Kingdom is about 59 million people
