PART I

( Król i królowa siedzą za stołem. Słychać muzykę dworską . Zespół muzyczny tańczy menueta. )

TRISTAN
( Trzyma w tańcu Izoldę za rękę. Tańczą w pierwszej parze. Muzyka się wycisza. Zespół schodzi ze sceny. Tristan kłania się przed parą królewską. )

Your Majesty!I`ve come here to ask in the name of Mark- the king of Cornwall. He would like to marry the princess Isoulde, your daughter.

( Kłania się. Zespół wraca na scenę i przez chwilę jeszcze tańczy w takt muzyki. )

PART II
( Królowa, matka Izoldy rozmawia ze służącą Izoldy, Brangien. Królowa trzyma w ręku dwie butelki z płynem.)

QUEEN
My dear Brangien! These are two bottles of special liquid. The first one ( pokazuje długą butelkę ) is for Isoulde and king Mark.. They should drink it before their first night after wedding party. ( Mówi głośniej ) But, remember! Both of them must drink it, because this some magical drink of love. Two people who drink it at the same time are going to love forever. Nobody and nothing will be able to divide them after that.

BRANGIEN
And what is there in the second bottle?

QUEEN
( Smutnym głosem. )
If something bad happens to Isoulde, she should drink it and it will help her to die quickly.

BRANGIEN
Oh, my queen! I don`t want Isoulde to die!

QUEEN
Yes, I know. Neither do I. But she is going to the unknown country. I`m not helping her when she is in danger.
( Brangien i królowa rzucają się sobie w objęcia i szlochają. )

QUEEN
But , remember! Don`t change the bottles. You will bring the death instead of love to my dear Isoulde.

BRANGIEN
I promise.


PART III

( Tristan i Izolda płyną statkiem. )

TRISTAN
Oh, my dear lady. It is very hot today. I am so thirsty.

ISOULDE
Yes, I am thirsty too. There is no water to drink on the ship.
( Podchodzi do półki z butelkami. Chwyta butelkę z napojem milosnym. )
Oh, sir Tristan! I`ve found the bottle of some drink! We are saved. Let`s drink it!
( Wypijają oboje napój miłosny. Po chwili chwytaja się za głowę, za serce, chwieją się. Układają się do snu. )

BRANGIEN
( Wchodzi, widzi śpiących, ogląda pustą butelkę po napoju milosnym i wykrzykuje: )
Oh no! I am so unhappy! The queen is going to kill me! Isoulde and sir Tristan have drunk the drink of forever lasting love!


PART IV

( Izolda patrzy tęsknym wzrokiem na Tristana. Ten unika jej wzroku. Odsuwa się od niej. )

TRISTAN
I serve my king. And I must give my sweetheart Isoulde back. But I don`t want to do it! I am so unhappy because I really love her very much.

ISOULDE
( Do siebie. )
Why is Tristan avoiding me? I think he doesn`t want to talk to me. I feel better when he is close to me. I don`t want to marry king Mark! I want to stay with my dear Tristan.


PART V

( Król Marek i Izolda siedzą za weselnym stołem .)

KING
My dear queen, It is high time we went to consumate our marriage.

ISOULDE
Yes, my king.
( Kłania się królowi. Wychodzi. )


PART VI


ISOULDE
I can`t spend this night with the king. I love Tristan!

BRANGIEN
But it is your duty, my lady.

ISOULDE
No! I`m not going to do it! Never! ... But? What can I do now? ... Oh! I`ve got an idea! King Mark is very old and almost blind. So, please! Go to the king`s bed tonight instead of me.

BRANGIEN
Oh no! I`m so miserable. But I must do it, because it was my fault. I should have kept the love drink better. I`m going to sacrifice.

ISOULDE
Oh, my dearest Brangien. Thank you very much! I`m spending this night with my beloved Trsistan walking in the park.

( Tristan i Izolda, trzymając się za rękę , chodzą po parku przy świetle księżyca. Z oddali słychać piosenkę o miłości. )

KONIEC
